At Family Promise of Greater Wichita, we know that the right people make all the difference. That’s why we’re thrilled to welcome Jessie Taylor to our Programs Team as our new Shelter Family Advocate.
In this role, Jessie will walk alongside families staying in our shelter program, helping them identify goals, navigate challenges, connect with resources, and build a path toward lasting housing stability. While every family’s journey is different, one thing remains the same: our commitment to meeting each family with dignity, relationship, and hope. Jessie embodies those values in a remarkable way.
A Wichita native and mom of two energetic children, Jessie has spent her career serving others through the social services field. When asked what drew her to this work, her answer was simple: “I love people.”
She shared that she’s never questioned her calling to serve others – only whether an organization truly lived out the values it claimed to hold. After interviewing with Family Promise, that question was answered.
“I could tell you guys are different than other organizations. I didn’t think I’d ever find a company that aligns with my beliefs and values, and you guys do.”
Jessie brings both professional experience and personal understanding to her work. She knows that parents often face incredibly difficult decisions to do what is best for their children, and she approaches those moments with compassion, encouragement, and a forward-looking perspective. Rather than seeing obstacles, she sees potential.
“One of my gifts is that I can see what people are good at and focus on that. Watching people grow and change is such a special experience – not everyone gets that. I get to be the one to walk alongside you – you’re the one making it happen.”
That philosophy reflects exactly how we strive to serve families at Family Promise: empowering parents to recognize their own strengths while providing the support and community they need to move forward.
Jessie is also excited by one of the things that makes Family Promise unique: our incredible network of volunteers and faith communities.
“The volunteer involvement has been the most interesting thing so far. Just seeing how much we partner with volunteers to do the work we do…so much community involvement…gives me hope that the community really does want to be involved.”
Outside of work, Jessie enjoys spending time with her kids, whether they’re exploring Clapp Park, heading out on adventures at the family farm, or grabbing their favorite Mexican food. Her daughter is already a fan of Ellie Promise since they share a name, and both of her children are excited to see their mom serving families in a role that reflects their own growing desire to help others.
