We are very pleased to welcome a new member to our Volunteer Board of Directors, Maggie Ballard!

Maggie has taken on the role of Co-Chair of our Events Fund Development team. She and the team are already off and running planning this year’s fall fundraiser, and we’re excited to have her energy behind our mission to empower families out of homelessness.

You may know Maggie already from her work with Paxton’s Blessing Box, which started in October 2016 (the same age as Family Promise here in Wichita).

Maggie and her adorable son Paxton, 9, founded Paxton’s Blessing Box together, and this will be their seventh year for Socktober, an annual sock drive each October. To date, they have collected over 25,000 pairs of socks just by using Facebook!

Maggie says of Paxton: “He’s hilarious, stubborn, independent, strong willed, smart, athletic and makes me proud. ”

Paxton’s Blessing Boxes are free standing micro pantries. They are stocked with non-perishable foods and toiletries for anyone that may need a hand up. There are 48 pantries all over Kansas today, and they will be expanding out of state soon!

Maggie was born and raised in Wichita and has been involved in the community and entrepreneurship ever since. She is a graduate of North High and the University of Kansas.

She bought her first business at the age of 22, “Maggie’s Scotch and Soda,” and owned it almost 13 years. She also owned Riverside Perk for 4 years. (Riverside Perk had been her first job at age 13.)

Currently Maggie work for COMCARE Community Partners, the fundraising arm for COMCARE, the largest of 27 community mental health centers in the state of Kansas.

Maggie enjoys helping others, most sports, KU, road trips, and hanging out with family.

Welcome to the team Maggie!!

Family Promise of Greater Wichita unites hearts and hands to provide compassionate hospitality and empower homeless families with children to achieve sustainable independence. We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
