Family Promise of Greater Wichita is excited to announce that Officer Alex Avendaño has recently joined the Board of Directors.

Officer Alex, sometimes known around the community as “Avi,” brings a passion for connecting with people throughout the community to this role as an FPGW Board member. Alex’s work with the Wichita Police Department Juvenile Intervention Unit, and his outlook on life, align closely with FPGW’s core values, especially “relationship.”

“I believe that relationships are important to make a real difference and build trust.”

Officer Alex Avendaño

Officer Alex dreams of connecting the community to prevent tragedy for young people rather than just responding to it. As a husband, father, and grandfather, he works hard to create a better future for the Wichita community and the kids growing up here. His passionate work to build relationships with the kids that he works with every day opens doors for genuine connection and change.

Alex’s vision for a better community is a wonderful asset to the FPGW Board and organization and will help ensure a strong focus and foundation for stable and effective growth that centers on dignity, relationship, and empowerment.

“We are so fortunate to have Alex as a member of our board. With his experience working with Wichita youth, his insight will be an amazing addition to our Family Promise community.”

FPGW Board President, Connor Cross

After spending a little time with Alex, it is clear that his love for people doesn’t just show up in his work in law enforcement. Working as a barber part time, he finds joy in another way to connect and interact with others. When asked where his favorite spot in Wichita was, he responded “I like to go where good things are happening. Anywhere that I can make a connection.”

When he’s not enjoying family time or going on motorcycle trips, you can often find Alex at local coffee shops and spots, building relationships and making connections.

Welcome to the Family Promise Board, Officer Avendaño!
