On the afternoon of September 8, we are planning a workday at the St. Clair House, a part of our Almost Home initiative. You can join us! Contact info is at the bottom of this page.
What is Almost Home?
Almost Home creates partnerships between landlords and Family Promise, to provide an in-between, transitional housing option for some families. (Please note: this is NOT the new Day House.)
Families with an eviction or poor/no rental history sometimes have trouble renting again — even when they have done the hard work to gain employment, childcare, transportation, a working budget, and savings, and are ready to graduate from the Rotation Program.
With a 6-12 month stay in a transitional home, families gain the good rental history they need to move on to permanent housing. Sometimes families need a second chance. This is why our Almost Home transitional properties are so crucial!
Project Help Needed
Recently a family moved out of this home and into permanent housing, arranged directly with their own landlord! So next we are preparing it for new tenants. There are several projects to complete: yard work, porch painting, screen repair, kitchen cleaning, blind repair, and other indoor cleaning activities.
Family Promise will provide all the materials, so we just need willing volunteers who can do the work.
We need:
6-8 people who can clean up the house inside.
About 4 who can work on the yard and landscape.
A painter or two to paint the front porch.
Someone who is able to repair a couple of screens.
Someone to repair the back porch steps and the backyard gate.
To clean out the garage and do some electrical rewiring of the garage lighting.
Join the fun on September 8 from 12:00-5:00pm to prepare the St. Clair house for another hard-working Family Promise family. Contact Bart Wilson at bart@bartleywilson.com with questions, to sign up, and for directions to the home.
With our great community’s support, we look forward to offering another family the added support of a transitional home by mid-September!
Family Promise of Greater Wichita unites hearts and hands to provide compassionate hospitality and empower homeless families with children to achieve sustainable independence. We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
