Family Promise of Greater Wichita is excited to welcome Lesly Velasco to the FPGW Staff Team!
Lesly joins the FPGW team as Family Services Coordinator, offering support to the Case Management team and families in the Emergency Services and Shelter programs.
As a “people person,” Lesly is thrilled to be joining the Family Promise mission and to have the opportunity to connect with families. She credits her mother, who established early in Lesly’s life a legacy of philanthropy and compassion, as the inspiration for her drive to take on this new role.
“I want my work to mean something,” says Lesly. Her favorite thing about Family Promise is the mission and the principles. “It’s not just about helping people, it’s about offering dignity. This is not a self-serving place.”
Born in Mexico, Lesly was three years old when her family immigrated to the States. She has spent her life observing the hard work and dedication of her family, along with the unique challenges that they’ve faced and how far they’ve come in just one generation. This life experience has embedded an attitude of care and concern in Lesly’s outlook on life, as she looks to better understand the experiences and challenges of others and help where she can.
FPGW Executive Director Dawn Epp says, “In a short conversation with Lesly, you will soon learn that she has a big heart and a deep love for all types of people. This will serve her well in her new role at Family Promise, which is also a new role for our organization. We are so excited to have her on the team to help serve families holistically and to make a difficult time in the lives of the families we serve feel more hopeful.”
Lesly loves art, especially oil painting, and is passionate about depicting animals and people because she can “tell a story with their face.” She enjoys spending time with her artsy family, including her three siblings. She also loves to read and her favorite place in Wichita is Watermark Books.
