Family Promise of Greater Wichita is thrilled to welcome our new AmeriCorps VISTA, Toyan Sims!
Toyan is a student at Wichita State University and is completing her practicum as she finishes pursuing her Bachelor of Social Work. She has previously worked for a special education program with USD 259 and is a born-and-raised Wichitan. She is excited to earn her degree and find her place in the field of Social Work – a place she knows she was meant to be.
We are excited about the passion that Toyan brings to this position, as she takes the baton of the VISTA/Graduate and Community Coordinator role. Her “heart for helping” is quickly recognized and contagious. She has stepped into the Family Promise family quickly and confidently and she is excited to be a part of this organization.
“We knew right away, when we first met Toyan, that she would be a great fit for our team,” said Executive Director Dawn Epp. “She has a huge heart and a passion for serving others, but most importantly, she has a love of learning. We are confident that she will continue the great work started by the VISTAs before her as she helps us build the capacity to serve even more families.”
Toyan is a mom of three young children and is a proud Southeast Golden Buffalo. She loves spending time with her big, close-knit family, painting, and doing her daily cardio. Her favorite thing about Wichita is how family oriented it is and she is excited to have found a place to not only get a unique learning experience, but to be able to further cement her passion for empowering others to succeed.
