You probably know we work with homeless families, but why and how exactly does that happen?

In the start of a new year and new season, it’s a good time to re-focus on who we are and where we hope to go next.

We are honored to have so many new friends and followers join us this past year. If you’ve been part of this extended family all along, we love having you here as well!

Where we Started

It all starts with the children.

Each year, Greater Wichita schools report more than 2500 children who are homeless. These could be living in hotels, cars, or doubled up with friends in unstable situations.

Nationwide, 2.5 million children are homeless each year.

Homeless families are in this circumstance for a variety of reasons — job loss, eviction, illness, family breakup.

But whatever the cause, we believe that children should have a home.

And in order to regain a solid footing in life, parents often need the stability of shelter and meals FIRST. This is where our caring community comes in.

Our Mission

In the fall of 2015, a Core Team of volunteers started meeting to take action. We had the help of the nationwide Family Promise template as a model.

From that group, Family Promise of Greater Wichita was born in 2016, with this mission:

Mission empower homeless families

Family Promise of Greater Wichita unites hearts and hands to provide compassionate hospitality and empower homeless families with children to achieve sustainable independence.

That’s a lot of words. In the coming weeks, we will explore each piece of this to explain the HOW of empowering homeless families in Wichita.

Please keep following along, as we explore our mission to help more families move from homeless to hope — and to learn how YOU can join in!
