Family Promise of Greater Wichita Launches Improved, Equitable Application Process for Rental Assistance
Wichita, Kansas – Family Promise of Greater Wichita (FPGW) is proud to announce the rollout of a new, improved application process for its rental assistance program. Designed to be more accessible and equitable, this streamlined process aims to better serve families in need of financial support to maintain housing stability, avoid eviction, and foster stronger relationships with landlords.
The updated application system, which will be open to applicants starting February 24th, 2025, reflects FPGW’s commitment to providing fair access to assistance for all eligible families. With a focus on efficiency and transparency, the application process now ensures that individuals and families who qualify for rental support will receive timely communication and follow-up. By aligning the application timeline closer to rent due dates, this process helps families address financial challenges before late fees and eviction proceedings arise, supporting both tenants and landlords in maintaining stable housing agreements.
Key Updates to the Application Process:
- Streamlined Timing: Applications for rental assistance will open five business days prior to the first business day of each month, with a submission window from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. This new schedule makes it easier for applicants to plan ahead and access assistance when they need it most.
- Clear and Accessible Criteria: To qualify, applicants must have children 17 years or younger in the household, a stable income source, a valid lease agreement, and other documentation, including proof of income and housing approval.
- Faster, Fairer Review: Applications will be reviewed within five business days, and applicants will be contacted for further assessment if they meet the program’s criteria. If an application is denied, applicants will be notified by email.
- Focused Assistance: Family Promise will assist with rent payments, security deposits, and financial support for families at risk of eviction. By ensuring timely payments, the program helps families avoid increased fees, eviction notices, and potential disruptions in their housing stability. This proactive approach also fosters better communication and trust between tenants and landlords.
“This new process is a reflection of our ongoing commitment to creating an equitable and efficient system that addresses the unique needs of families facing housing insecurity,” said Beth Schafers, Director of Development and Community Engagement at Family Promise of Greater Wichita. “By aligning support closer to critical due dates, we not only help families avoid eviction and financial strain but also strengthen their relationships with landlords, ensuring a more stable living environment for everyone involved and a more successful housing atmosphere for our community.”
FPGW is dedicated to supporting families in crisis and helping them regain stability through financial assistance, resources, referrals, and case management. As part of this effort, FPGW encourages all eligible families to apply during the designated timeframes.
Important Notes:
- Applications are not guaranteed approval, and all submitted applications will be reviewed according to eligibility criteria.
- Due to high call volumes, FPGW requests that applicants do not leave voicemails, as they cannot be returned.
- For shelter inquiries, families in need of shelter should call (316) 977-7026 between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
Family Promise of Greater Wichita remains committed to helping families overcome homelessness and housing insecurity. This updated application process is just one of the ways we are working to improve access to essential services for our community.
