A message from our Board President, Carrie Corliss.

For many of us partnering with Family Promise, sharing a meal and a safe place to sleep has become a very special part of our lives. We’ve made dear friends who were once in a homeless crisis but are now in permanent housing, leading sustainable lives with their children. One of our graduates, AB, says, “In the program there was always someone to walk beside me, through all the ups and downs.” Since graduation, this hero mom has found an even better job and is now a leader in our community partner, A Thrive Community, continuing to work toward even bigger goals.

What a privilege to have your partnership in this effort to empower homeless families with children to achieve sustainable independence!  Working together, so far this year we have been able to help 20 homeless families, and thanks to the added commitment of 10 more congregations in 2018, that number will increase next year!

It’s a privilege to not only be part of this local effort, but to also be part of a national effort of more than 200 Family Promise affiliates across 44 states fighting together to ultimately end family homelessness. The week of Sunday, October 21 through Sunday, October 28, has been designated Family Promise Week and is being celebrated nationwide. During the week, we hope you will give thought and attention to the fact that children and their families make up 35% of all people who are homeless, and that more than 2,500 children were homeless last year in Greater Wichita alone.

The City of Wichita will raise awareness of the issue of family homelessness by recognizing Family Promise Week with a proclamation. The proclamation will be presented at the City Council meeting on Thursday, October 16th, and it will be read to inaugurate Family Promise Week at our 3rd Annual Gala on Sunday, October 21, 2018. We hope you can join us!

And finally, we look forward to expanding this good work Before the Winter! The launch of the Second Rotation is planned for November 4, 2018. Please consider an ongoing or one-time financial gift to support this important expansion. Your partnership makes all the difference.

Blessings,
Carrie Corliss
Board Chair
