This Backyard Ultra mirrors the very endurance that the families served by Family Promise of Greater Wichita live out every day. Hour after hour, they rise again. They face setbacks, uncertainty, and exhaustion, yet with the support of a community behind them, they keep moving forward. The cheers, the resources, the steady love that surrounds them are what make the next lap possible.
On race day, that same spirit fills the park. Runners gather under the Kansas sky, surrounded by volunteers and supporters who carry them farther than they could go alone. Each loop represents persistence. Each mile becomes a reflection of what it means to keep showing up, again and again, for something bigger than yourself.
So, this Labor Day weekend, skip the lake and carry the boats. Join us at Sedgwick County Park and be part of a story that celebrates endurance, compassion, and the strength of community. Who: Family Promise of Greater Wichita invites YOU to take part in the 2nd annual Laps for Love.
What: Laps for Love is Wichita’s Backyard Ultra Marathon, where runners complete a 4.167-mile loop every hour, on the hour, until only one remains standing.
When: The race begins at 9:00 AM on Saturday, September 5, 2026, and continues until the final runner completes one more lap than anyone else.
Where: Plum Shelter at Sedgwick County Park, Wichita, Kansas.
Why: To raise funds and awareness for Family Promise of Greater Wichita, helping families find stability, hope, and housing through community endurance and love.

Star Gala
The 2026 Star Gala will be held on Thursday, October 8th and all proceeds will support the work of Family Promise of Greater Wichita, empowering families with children to overcome homelessness and housing insecurity.
Guests can look forward to an evening of celebration and encouragement as they participate in a live auction, peruse the items up for grabs in the silent auction, and come together to celebrate the continued success in our mission to serve families in the Greater Wichita area. Join us for an unforgettable evening under the stars and be a shining light of hope for those in need!
