We’re excited to welcome Alica Gonzalez to the Family Promise of Greater Wichita team as a new Stabilization Family Advocate.
In this role, Alica will walk alongside families as they build long-term stability, helping them navigate challenges, connect with resources, and continue moving toward their goals after securing housing.
For Alica, the opportunity felt like a natural fit.
“When I read the mission statement, it really stood out to me,” she shared. “I knew this was a place where I could make a difference.”
Originally from Garden City, Alica moved to Wichita in 2025 and is currently completing her bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Criminal Justice at Newman University. She expects to graduate in the next year and is working toward her long-term goal of becoming a therapist.
Her passion lies in supporting children and families, particularly those navigating foster care and other difficult life circumstances.
That compassion is rooted in both personal and family experiences that have shaped her understanding of how important support systems can be.
Alica is excited to gain hands-on experience helping families overcome obstacles and build brighter futures while bringing her own experiences to the table in order to support others well.
“I never thought I’d be in a position to say ‘I overcame that.’ Now I am.”
FPGW Director of Programs, Cecelia Long, had this to say about Alica joining the team: “Alica is going to take our Stabilization Program to the next level for families recovering from homelessness. I am thrilled for her to apply her compassionate care, growth mindedness, and calming presence to support families on their path to greater housing and family stability!”
Outside of work and school, Alica enjoys sewing, arts and crafts, listening to music from around the world (including a lot of K-pop), and spending time with her dog, Ace, a terrier she’s had since he was a puppy. If she’s not studying, you might find her at Sweet Pops with a Vietnamese coffee in hand or working on one of her latest creative projects like custom hair bonnets!
She credits Wichita with helping her grow and discover new opportunities.
“Wichita opened me up as a person,” she said.
We’re thrilled to have Alica on the Family Promise team and look forward to the care, dedication, and perspective she’ll bring to the families we serve.
Please join us in welcoming Alica to Family Promise! 💛
