Every child deserves a home. The way the need looks may change, but that truth remains. And our goal is to make that home possible.
In this new year, we are taking new steps to help families with children. This means we’re ready to share our BRAND NEW mission statement, vision for the future, and core values. Don’t worry, the mission hasn’t changed – it’s actually broadened to assist more children and their families. Family Promise of Greater Wichita will always seek that goal, and it will always depend on each one of us working together.
First, WHY we do this.
It’s a simple statement, but we know it’s not easy. This vision reminds us why we started, and what all the meetings, volunteer trainings, phone calls, host recruiting, and fundraisers are for. This vision is how we direct all our efforts.
As an extended family across Wichita, we dream together with families and with the community, of homes and bright futures for every child.
Here is our NEW and updated mission statement.
For several reasons, we decided it’s time to change the “homeless families with children” wording from our prior mission statement.
- Homelessness does not define a person or family. It is their current circumstance.
- We have expanded! We help families who are on the brink of homelessness, in an effort to take a preventive stance and avoid a homeless circumstance.
- Families who are housing insecure may not fit the traditional definition of “homeless.” They could be on the verge of eviction, couch surfing with friends, or temporarily in a motel, but these folks need and deserve help as much as those who are literally without a home.
Service Categories
We have also listed our goals within the mission statement, in three primary categories or buckets.
Community Involvement
We partner with other agencies and a myriad of congregations and groups.
Holistic Approach
We look at the big picture with families and ask them to consider all their needs in life.
Sustainable Solutions
We work to set families up for long-term success with ongoing relationships and resources.
As we continue this blog series, there will be more to come on each of these three categories, . Please stay tuned, and please use these ideas to think about YOUR part – we have a spot for everyone to join the mission of Family Promise.
Every child deserves a home. The way the need looks may change, but that truth remains. Together, we will make that home possible.
