You might have an old car that you don’t need. Families in a homeless crisis often are without cars. We need your car — donating can be a win-win for everyone!
When a family is homeless, they have sometimes also lost their vehicle. In Wichita, you may have noticed, this makes life incredibly challenging.
What if you could help empower a family with a CAR?
Could your old model turn into someone else’s dream come true?
Transportation is Key to Employment
- Our bus system does not service all parts of town, and it stops running at 7:00pm. Families who are using the bus may spend up to FOUR HOURS per day when they have to make multiple trips to school, work, and appointments.
- The city bus only runs a half day on Saturdays and doesn’t run at all on Sundays.
- Often the higher-paying jobs that our families can obtain are manufacturing jobs, but those entry-level positions are usually 2nd or 3rd shift. If people don’t have transportation, they have to turn down jobs.
- Many jobs have mandatory overtime or require weekend work. Our families face losing their jobs when those requirements come up if they don’t have any transportation to get there.
Donated Cars for Families
Vehicles donated to Family Promise are charitable contributions. You transfer the title to us, and then, when a family qualifies for a car through our Keys to Success program, we gift the car to them — ensuring yet another piece of their work towards a sustainable life.
Qualifying for a car means that the family has submitted a budget and plan for covering vehicle expenses, gas, insurance, and maintenance.
And having a car means independence. Ability to get a better job. Using less time at daycare. These are all good things.
We currently have some families ready and waiting for cars to be available, so now would be a really good time to get this rolling!
If you have one sitting around, we need your car. What are you waiting for? Call or email us today!
Family Promise of Greater Wichita unites hearts and hands to provide compassionate hospitality and empower homeless families with children to achieve sustainable independence. We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
