We have added some new friends to our extended Family Promise family, so here’s a quick review of what we do in case you need to catch up. Or to share with your friends!
We walk with families out of a homeless circumstance into a new and sustainable life.
Officially, Family Promise of Greater Wichita unites hearts and hands to provide compassionate hospitality and empower homeless families with children to achieve sustainable independence.
We are part of a nationwide Family Promise network of caring people who want to share community resources and offer friendship to parents who are working towards intense goals for their families.
Host Congregations take one one week out of every quarter — volunteers set up classrooms as family sleeping rooms with our program cots, prepare homemade meals each evening, and drive families to and from the Day House in our program van.
Support Congregations may not have space to host, but they support a Host Congregation with volunteer needs and resources. See all Host and Support Congregations here.
The Day House is a space provided by Lorraine Avenue Mennonite Church and serves as the hub for all our activities — guests do laundry, take showers, store belongings, and participate in case management and tutoring.
Volunteer drivers, administrative staff, tutors, and playmates (kids can volunteer easily!) help out at various times with program needs.
Volunteer board members, team members, and professional experts also contribute time and energy to the program.
Generous donors, community partners, businesses, foundations, and congregations also contribute financial support and in-kind resources.
All of this comes together as one giant Wichita family, intent on new opportunities for children and their families.
