This beautiful testimony of her own childhood homelessness is shared with permission from a volunteer at one of our new Second Rotation host congregations, Reformation Lutheran Church.

Over the course of my childhood, I encountered many personal struggles. I was homeless multiple times, evicted more times than I can recall, endured physical, emotional and sexual abuse…I struggled to keep up with school due the stress and changing schools every time we moved.

Through all the struggles and obstacles I encountered, the absolute most special moments were when people whom I’ve never met before served me a hot meal as I stood in line in a homeless shelter. Even through my adolescent embarrassment, I knew these individuals were God-sent and special.

Today, I have the emotional blessing to return the favor for every single person who expressed love to me as a struggling child. I’m filled with gratitude as we fill our church will families who have found themselves upon difficult times and are homeless.

I’m so beyond happy to give back in such a beautiful way. If you can, please consider learning how you too can give back to our homeless families. I will be more than thrilled to buy anyone a cup of coffee and discuss ways we can help our fellow brothers and sisters.

Be grateful tonight as you sleep in your own bed. Be grateful tonight as your children know stability and comfort.
